Do i need a special transportation license to work as a truck driver in the UK?

Hello. I would like to work as a truck driver in the UK for about a year and i want to know if i need a special transportation license for that. I`m Romanian and here in Romania i need all kind of documents like transport license for normal cargo, for people or dangerous stuff... Thank you very much
