Did I ruin my makeup brushes?

I used the makeupgeektv on you tube method. Your rubbed the brush in olive oil on a paper towel and it removed all the extra makeup. Then you were supposed to put baby shampoo in a sponge and rub the brush into the sponge. Then you rinsed with lukewarm water. I did this except i used handsoap because i didnt have baby shampoo. Now my brushes have been dry but the bristles have clumped together and there kindof greasy even though they are dry. Did I ruin my brushes? can I fix it or do i need new ones? THank you!!
