I dont like the way i look in jeans...?

I am a guy and I have big calves from running. My friends took me to go get jeans the other day and I bought some I did not like the way I looked. Is it bad to just wear cargo shorts for everything ? Do you suggest I get different color cargo shorts if I do wear them a lot? My friends said I looked alright in jeans but I prefer shorts . What is your opinion on cargos? What do you suggest I do about combinations with clothes and cargos? I really wish I could wear jeans when I go out but I always end up wearing cargos. Is that bad? Thanks
