What type of brush should i use for my hair?

so my mom is white and my dad is african american so my hair is thick and naturally curly but it permid so any my hair tends to get dry and dull and im not sure if it my brush or what so i us a boar bristle brush and so i was wondering dose the brush cut it for my type of hair or showed i through it out?
